Question 4

how did you use new techniques in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
In our A2 project, we as a group used a different range of media software, e.g. Imovie, Garage band, hand held camera's Photoshop. each of these helped us create our projects and ancillary texts, throughout our project we used Apple IMAC computers to help us do this, this was helped us a lot as it had a wide range of high technology software to give us a professional look for our project. most of our Microsoft software we used such as word or powerpoint was during our research, it helped us create mood boards and questionnaires. it was also so planning and evaluation.

All of the software that we used in our project helped us through all of the stage. Microsoft allowed us to write out a filming plan to help us keep on top of things, it helped us write a production schedule of what we have done on our blogs and what we haven't this was so we didn't fall behind on them. For our magazine front cover and trailer poster, we used Photoshop, Ashleigh was in charge of this because she had the experience, but we all chipped in to help decide what goes where. the software that we used on the imacs were the best option because they were made for real film companies to do their films on, we used imovie because it had all the transitions, titles and it was easy to upload. I was in charge of editing because of my experience, I knew how to do a lot of things from my previous experience in AS. we used Youtube to help us upload all of our filming to link it to our blogs, we used Twitter and Facebook to help us get audience feedback, this is because we all had friends that fit our target audience so they would enjoy watching the trailer a lot more. we also used Youtube to help research different trailers within our genre, this was so we could know how long the trailers were and what they include. we used Garage band to help create the music for our trailer and used the internet and Youtube to help us find methods if we didn't know how to do it. we also used photoshop tutorials on the internet if we weren't sure on how to do an effect.

the cameras that we had used for our project we had used were digital standard cameras, this was so we had the consistency of pixels on our footage, so it looked smooth all the way through, we used handheld cameras to create the documentary style that we wanted, this was by filming us ourselves and off framing shots all of the professional footage we used and filmed was by Rebecca this is because of her experience of her AS course. During the course of our project we also used Blogger, this was to blog all of our research and planning for our trailer in order for teachers, my group members and the examiner to see all of our progress in this project. we also used this to post all of our evaluation on it.Overall media technology allowed us as a group to construct our research, planning and evaluation. each of the programmes we used helped us create all of our trailer and ancillary texts which allowed us to create our whole project as a group.

Media Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

For this question we as a group decide to answer this question together, so in regards to this we made a voice recording of our answer. As a group we then discussed our views and what we have learnt from this experience we shared together and how we could make our media products and posters they best could be.

As you can see there are different screen shots, each of them have been included in our clip. So see below to how these pictures linked to our answer.

Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

we as a group we decided to film the whole thing. the reason for this is because we felt that we needed to discuss what we felt went well and what didn't during the course of our project. we also felt that we needed to talk about as a group why we chose the genre and the target audience in our trailer and also why we used the texts, font, image in our poster and magazine.

after looking back at this video and commenting on how we felt about our final product and ancillary texts, I do agree that in our magazine front cover there wasn't enough subtitles, however to some extent I feel that if we added more then it would look too busy and cramped.

Question 1

in what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This is a wide shot from the beginning of our trailer. The reason we included this place into our trailer is because it shows our target audience the location and the characters in our trailer. From this shot we can see that our characters are portrayed as being vulnerable because of the trees that happen to be towering over them making them look insignificant. We used the lighting in this shot because it is light in the centre, however it gets darker the further down the shot, this represents the darkness that is coming for them towards the end of the trailer.

this is another shot that we as a group decided to place into our trailer, the reason for this is because earlier on in the project we had to research different shots that were within our Thriller genre. The Sun newspaper main target audience is older men, we chose this because older men tend to watch thriller movies because of the good looking girls that are included in the movies. we used the word riveting this is because it creates an impression of a trailer that is filled with excitement and suspense. this then builds up an idea that the film is everything that our target audience wanted enough to watch the film. during the course of our research we had to look at different reviews that were involved in the same genre of our trailer. when thinking about what review to put we wanted to include the word riveting because of the amount of suspense it had.

this shot is at the end of the trailer, this is the title of our film. we placed it centre stage, the reason we did this is because when things are placed in the centre they tend to be important, and the title for a movie is important. we gave the title a big font to because it will stand out more and the audience will also remember the name. we put this shot at the end because we felt that the audience would know the name of the film if it was placed at the end of the trailer. in the audio we placed two screams as a voice over. we did this to make the audience

in regards to real media reviews they are always stamped with an award to show how far their film has been successful. when researching earlier on in our project we found that it was very important and powerful to have this kind of shot put in, it shows the target audience when watching it how successful the film is which will then hopefully make them want to see it. so we then decided to place it in, we as a group decided to go with Audience Choice Award because it shows the audience that other people who are their age think that this trailer is worth a see

this is another shot that we included into our trailer. this shot is a low angle shot  it also shows a direct gaze of the protagonist in the trailer. however we have broken away from the typical Thriller trailer, the reason for this is because we have gotten her to film it herself instead of a professional camera. The reason that we have chosen this angle is it because it then lets the audience have a close up of the characters expression on her face. it shows the fear and curiosity on her face when she is heading towards the woods. this follows a typical Thriller trailer because it lets the audience know that the main character is always the ' chosen one'

this shot is of 2 of our 3 characters in our film, it is the pro and antagonist. we think as a group we fit in to the conventions of most trailers that fit our genre. this is where the protagonist is hiding something to give a feeling of suspense. the angle of this shot allows us to see both characters and the type of location that they are in. we decided to go for a middle shot is because we wanted both of the characters to be seen, with a bit of location to make the audience aware. the background of this shot gives the audience an understanding of the location and the way the characters are placed, to suggest that an accident may occur, however when that will happen, the audience doesn't know. the reason for this is because we wanted the audience to be engaged in the film.

trailer before feedback

this is our trailer. as a group we haven't finished it yet and we decided that we wanted to put it up on different websites so people can see how many people like it and what their opinion is whether it is positive or negative feedback. we hope to change it to the best of our ability.

Audience feedback

when editing our trailer, we as a group thought it would be a good idea to upload it half way through and get some audience feedback. so we decided to post our unfinished filming onto different websites, such as Facebook and Youtube, we asked people of FaceBook and Youtube to comment whether it was positive of negative to see what they liked and disliked about the trailer, however we did state that it wasn't finished. As you can see we got a few comments on what people liked or the things they think we could improve on. we have decided to take some comments on board and hopefully will produce a good final trailer.

uploading potential filming

this is filming that we have uploaded to maybe add to our film. before adding it to the trailer we have to look through it and see if the filming is good quality and would suit our trailer. most of the shots that we have taken have worked well, as you can see we have done a close up of Ayyaz this is because the scene is about them talking about their location for camping, everyone is unsure about it expect him, we chose to do a close up to show the expression on his face as it is serious.

potential footage for our film

here is some filming that we have done as part of our scenes for our trailer. we have filmed a wide range of shots in order to get a variety. some of the filming that we have done may be used in our trailer and others might not be useful. we are still in the process of filming but haven't got a lot to film. we chose some of these shots because we thought that it would be suitable for our trailer. as you can see in the last picture we have done a close up of the bite mark, which is on my arm. this scene is about the fact that one of the characters have been bitten but only they can see it, the rest of the group can't. this is to show the audience what they mark looks like.

actors and actress'

here are the people taking part in our trailer.

before filming we had to think about the kinds of people that we wanted in our trailer, we had to think about how our actors would reflect our narrative and also how the audience could also relate to them. for doing this we had to take into consideration the age we needed our actors to be or even look, their personality also has to fit with our genre. the actors that we need to be roughly in the same age group as our target audience. we also want the audience to have a clear understanding on what is happening to the teenagers and also understand the kind of relationship the group has with each other. we also chose to have 1 male and 3 female, this is because in a typical thriller  the male is more dominant and is the leader of the group where as the females are more helpless and weak.

check list for feb

this is our groups checklist. this shows us what we have done and the things that we need as a group still need to do, every so often we update it so therefore the red writing is the things that we have recently done. by doing this it keeps us as a group organised and aware of what we need to get done and how far into the process of making our trailer.

this also keeps us on top of blogs, by letting us know what needs to be blogged so once we have done it we blog it. this then stops us from having to post loads of blogs at once.

saving and uploading footage

our group went filming last week for our trailer, this is part of what we filmed, we then saved it and uploaded it in order to get started on our trailer, we looked through all of the footage to see what we could use and to see if any shots are good enough to go in our trailer. because trailers usually have quick shots then we have loads of filming that we could use even if it is part of a whole scene.

costumes

                                                     costumes

For this we have decided that the clothes that our actors and actress' are casual and everyday clothes, the reason for this is because our story is about a group of teenagers that have come together to talk about what plans they have for the summer.

for the girls we thought of them wearing jeans, jumpers and coats, this is because they decide to go camping so there for they have to keep warm

the boys will be the same as it will be cold so they have to keep warm. when it comes to filming the scenes in the wooded area, we talked about how the actors need to look like they are prepared for their camping trip. as the woods will be muddy wellie boots will be practical, bags will also look more realistic as they need something to carry their stuff in.

location ideas.

this is the location that we are planning on using for our trailer. this fits our genre really well. we chose this location because it gives the audience a mysterious and will make the audience feel uneasy. this location is also good for our trailer because our narrative is about a group of friends that go on a camping trip. we have been to check out this location to see if it is good enough and we as a group were happy with this location and it also feels and looks very mysterious.

story board.

this is our story board that we have created. we did this to show a clear understanding on what we want to be filmed on our trailer. this gives us a clear view on the types of shots we need. when the music needs to come in, and the kind of filming effects we need.

production schedule

This is our group production schedule. this shows us what days we will be filming and where. it also tells us as a group what type of equipment we will need and the suitable clothes we will need to wear. The schedule also shows what time we need to be meeting to film. it shows on the table different times, this allows us to film at night and day time to get a variety of shots with different lighting. Times are very important when it comes to filming because if we were to film at night time then we will need artificial lighting. This schedule gets us prepared and organised so we know what we are filming on what days. As you can see we have planned to do our filming mostly in January, this then gives us time to edit before the deadline and also allows us to re- film anything that goes wrong or doesn't work or fit in our trailer and still giving us time to edit and complete our trailer.

Narrative of our story.

For the narrative of our flim we came up with alot of diffferent ideas. as we was going through the the ideas and deciding what one would we like to choose, we had to think about a range of different factors before we put together trailer ideas for example we had to think about what are target audience would prefer watching, what ideas would challenge us as a group and what idea best fitted our genre. After thinking of a range of ideas we put them all together like you see in the blog before and started to go through them talking about which ones we liked the best and how we would produce that idea when we came to filming, in the end the idea that we went with for our trailer is:

A group of troubled teenagers witness an event that has potentially affected the way they behave from now, an incident so traumatic that the teenagers cannot shake off the feeling of permanent despair. In order to clear their minds and conscious the teens decide a camping trip is in order in the local wood that is far away from the news in the local town. The woods seem different, quieter and almost serene and dissimilar from what the group had expected as if it was already ready for them. This is the last year the groups are going to be together before they go off to university and decide to film their entire trip to create a lasting memory that they can share between them after the trip is done. The group’s arrival takes a sudden turn when one of their friends goes missing, his decision to follow another figure into the deeper woods will now determine the future of his other friends. The teens are aware that if they separate they will cover more ground and decide to partner up for protection and each will now face challenges that could make them or break them. The incident that they had decided to ignore has now consequently caught up with them and will soon destroy them in way that they believed could not be possible. Their families and friends will now be challenged and their decision to go to the woods now means they cannot warn their family or protect them either. The challenges that they will go through will determine if the families are safe or gone.
The pattern of challenges makes the friend realize that someone close to them has set them up, someone close to home. Their deepest and darkest fears are coming for them just as they thought things cannot go worse.
